Overview

Firewall Services provide automated security tools used to filter out known malicious network traffic and protect server and end user networks. Malicious network activity is designed to exploit vulnerabilities in devices connected to Penn’s network, allowing others to gain unauthorized access to, and control of, network devices and the information they hold.

  • Secure Remote Access - a VPN service to securely connect users working remotely to Penn's networks

The Departmental Firewall cost model is based on ISC owning the Firewall hardware. The billed monthly cost includes ISC support and the hardware replacement costs, amortized over 5 years, including vendor maintenance.

ISC rate increases are generally aligned with University increases.

The ISC rate review process is timed to coincide with the University’s annual budgeting process. Rates are reviewed over the summer, and if any require a change, they are approved for the following fiscal year. ISC will make its best effort to communicate these changes to clients by the end of October to allow for budget updates. Exceptions may occasionally occur (e.g., a vendor changes a pass-through fee midyear), and when they do, ISC will do its best to provide as much lead time for clients as possible.
