On September 30, 2025, Microsoft began rolling out Windows 11 2025 Update (also designated as 25H2), which is the fourth significant upgrade to Windows 11. This release includes a series of refinements to the Windows 11 interface.

Information Systems & Computing (ISC) strongly recommends that all University users adopt a "wait and see" approach and continue using earlier versions of Windows 11 for at least three weeks following this release. This period allows time for any initial bugs and compatibility issues to be identified and fixed. ISC suggests that administrators of institutionally owned systems block the upgrade and that users of individually owned systems ignore Microsoft's upgrade prompts. ISC will send an update on 25H2's status at the University on October 20.

ISC has been testing 25H2 since late July. So far, we have not seen any significant compatibility differences if the system was already running 24H2. University constituents who are running 23H2 or below will see more changes if they upgrade.
