To keep Penn at the forefront of innovation and academic excellence, the University has launched a multi-year program to enhance its technology and data environment. By direction of the Senior Executive Vice President and the Board of Trustees, the program's overall goal is to support the protection and safety of the education, research, and service that Penn provides daily—and to allow our community to continue with that mission uninterrupted. The University will be improving its capabilities to detect, identify, defend against, respond to, and recover from increasing attacks. This new program is called Penn SecureIT.
Timeline
Penn SecureIT represents a collaboration among the Office of Information Systems and Computing and five other EVP divisions. Projects have been prioritized and will be implemented to improve Penn’s security posture. It is estimated that the entire program will last several years and/or until all areas of risk are addressed. The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES) has been selected as the initial division to participate in Penn SecureIT. The program's first phase, Sprint 1, commenced in August 2024. Subsequently, the Division of Finance initiated the following phase, Sprint 2, earlier than planned at the end of August. The subsequent divisions to implement Penn SecureIT are (in timeline order): Division of Human Resources (HR), Business Services Division (BSD), and Division of Public Safety (DPS). Most divisions are expected to conclude their Sprint within four to five months.
Transparency
The Penn SecureIT team underscores its commitment to maximum collaboration, communication, change management, and transparency with the EVP divisions and all other stakeholders throughout this program.
